Patio Paving

New Patios in Newbridge

Your Newbridge patio is shaped by the way you use the garden. The table, the patch that gets the sun on a summer evening and the step out from the back door all decide where the paving goes, and the size, shape and levels are agreed with you before anything is dug.

Samples of porcelain, granite and limestone are brought to the FREE design visit and placed in your Newbridge garden, because stone looks different outdoors than it does in a showroom. Porcelain is even and very easy to clean, granite is hard-wearing with a fine speckle, and limestone has a soft, traditional blue-grey colour.

Steps from the back door and the edge pieces around the patio can be laid in the same stone, so the space looks finished as a whole.

Beneath the surface is a dug-out, compacted base, with every slab fully bedded so there are no hollows. The patio is laid to a gentle fall that moves rainwater away from your house, and the installation has a 5-year warranty.

How It Works

How a New Patio Is Built

  1. Plan the Layout

We measure the garden and you agree the size, shape and levels, with samples of every stone there on the day.

  2. Dig Out

The lawn or existing paving is lifted and the ground dug out to take a solid base.

  3. Base & Falls

The base is compacted firm, with a gentle fall set away from the house.

  4. Lay & Point

Slabs are laid to the agreed layout, cut where necessary and pointed at the joints.

  5. Final Check Together

The completed patio is gone over with you, and together you confirm it has been finished as agreed.

FAQs

Patios FAQs for Newbridge

Do You Lay Patios in Newbridge?

Yes. Newbridge in Co. Kildare is about 50 km from our base in Swords, and we lay patios in and around it, including Kildare, Kilcullen, Athgarvan and Ballymany. Give us a call on 1800 938 832, quote your Eircode and a FREE site visit will be set up.

How Do I Get a Price for Patios in Newbridge?

Call 1800 938 832 or fill in the form with your Eircode. A FREE site visit is arranged in Newbridge, the job is looked at properly and you get a clear price with no small print. No deposit is needed, and you are never pushed to sign.

Which Patio Stone Is Best for an Irish Garden?

On a well-made base, all three stand up to Irish weather. Porcelain is the least fuss to clean, granite is the toughest underfoot and limestone has the classic blue-grey colour. The samples come to your Newbridge garden at the visit, so you can choose the one that looks right in your own light.

Will a Porcelain Patio Be Slippery in the Rain?

Porcelain made for outdoor use has a textured surface to stop it getting slippery when wet. Grip is graded on an R scale, and suppliers generally treat R11 as the minimum for a garden; outdoor porcelain is usually 20mm thick. The samples at the visit let you test the texture by hand.

How Big Should My Patio Be?

Measure it against the furniture you'll use, then leave enough room to get around the table and move chairs freely. The outline is marked out on the ground with you at the visit, so you can see the actual size before any digging.

What Affects the Cost of a New Patio?

Size comes first, then your choice of stone, the excavation and base the ground needs, and extras like steps or edging. Porcelain is tough to cut, so it adds labour. A clear quote follows the FREE site visit, and there is no deposit: you pay when the work is complete.

Can the Patio Be Level With My Back Door?

It is laid just below the door threshold, not perfectly level, and it falls gently away from the house. Rain then runs off towards the garden and stays away from the back door. The heights are agreed with you before work starts.

How Much Fall Should a Patio Have?

Most patio laying guides use roughly 1 in 60, about 17mm for every metre, falling away from the house. Some porcelain suppliers are content with 1:80 on very flat slabs. The fall for your patio, and its drainage point, is agreed with you at the visit.

Can You Lay a Patio Over My Old Slabs?

No. The old slabs are lifted along with the bed underneath, because laying over them would hide old faults under the new work. The new patio is then laid on a base that has been freshly dug out and compacted.

Does a New Patio Need Sealing?

Porcelain needs no sealer because it is non-porous. Granite only needs a sweep and an occasional wash to look well. Limestone can be sealed so stains are easier to clean, but it isn't required, and the options are explained to you when you choose the stone.

Is There a Warranty on a New Patio?

Yes. A 5-year warranty covers every new patio installation, and the slabs carry their manufacturer's warranty too. No deposit is taken; you pay once the patio is finished, and only larger projects are paid in stages. Quotes carry no small print.

How Can I Tell a Patio Has Been Laid Well?

Press on the slabs and none should rock, and after rain there should be no standing water. Slabs side by side should be level to around 2mm, joints should be filled neatly and fully, and the paving should finish at least 150mm under the damp-proof course except at doorways, keeping air bricks clear.
