New Patios in Lucan

Patios in Lucan are designed from the back door outwards. The first job is to understand how you use the garden, so the table goes where you want it, the seating catches the evening sun and the step out from the house feels natural.

Size, shape and levels are all agreed with you before any ground is broken. To help with the choice of stone, porcelain, granite and limestone samples are brought to the FREE design visit, so you can see how each one looks next to your Lucan home rather than guessing from a picture.

Each stone has its own character. Porcelain is even in colour and very easy to clean, granite is hard-wearing with a fine speckle, and limestone has the soft blue-grey shade found in so many Irish gardens. Matching steps and edge pieces can be laid in whichever one you choose.

Every slab is laid on a full bed over a dug-out, compacted base, leaving no hollow spots, and the patio falls gently so water runs away from the house. The installation comes with a 5-year warranty.

How It Works

How a New Patio Is Built

  1. Plan the Layout

We measure up and agree the size, shape and levels of the patio with you, with samples of the stone to hand.

  2. Dig Out

Turf or old paving is removed and the ground dug out to the depth a solid base needs.

  3. Base & Falls

The base is compacted and graded so it falls gently away from your house.

  4. Lay & Point

The slabs are laid to the agreed plan and cut as needed, then the joints are pointed.

  5. Final Check Together

Finally the work is walked through with you to confirm everything has been completed as agreed.

FAQs

Patios FAQs for Lucan

Do You Lay Patios in Lucan?

Yes. Lucan is roughly 20 km from our base in Swords, and patios are laid across this part of Co. Dublin, including Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Adamstown and Leixlip. Call 1800 938 832 and quote your Eircode to book a FREE site visit.

How Do I Get a Price for Patios in Lucan?

Call 1800 938 832, or send the form along with your Eircode. We set up a FREE site visit in Lucan, see exactly what the job needs and then give you a clear price with no small print. There is no deposit, and you pay once the patio is finished.

Which Patio Stone Is Best for an Irish Garden?

Porcelain, granite and limestone all handle Irish weather well when the base beneath them is right. Porcelain is the simplest to look after, granite takes the most wear and limestone gives a timeless blue-grey look. Because colour changes with light, the samples come to your garden so you choose with the stone in front of you.

Will a Porcelain Patio Be Slippery in the Rain?

Garden-grade porcelain has a textured surface designed to grip when wet. Slip resistance is rated using an R value, and R11 is generally regarded as the minimum for outdoor paving; slabs for outdoors are usually 20mm thick. You can feel the finish of each sample at the visit before deciding.

How Big Should My Patio Be?

Plan for the furniture first, then add enough room to walk around it and push chairs out from the table. At the design visit the shape is marked on the ground with you, so you can judge the size properly before digging begins.

What Affects the Cost of a New Patio?

Price depends mainly on the size of the area, the stone, how much ground has to be dug out and built up, and features such as steps and edging. Porcelain is very hard and slow to cut, so it adds labour. You get a clear quote at the FREE site visit, and no deposit is taken.

Can the Patio Be Level With My Back Door?

It is set slightly below the door threshold, not dead level, with a gentle fall running away from the house. Rain therefore drains off across the patio and into the garden rather than back towards your door. The exact heights are agreed at the visit.

How Much Fall Should a Patio Have?

The usual guide figure is a fall of 1:60, about 17mm across each metre, running away from the building. Some porcelain suppliers recommend 1 in 80 for their flatter slabs. Your patio's fall is set to drain to the garden or a drain, and it is agreed with you at the visit.

Can You Lay a Patio Over My Old Slabs?

No. Old slabs and their bedding are lifted out before anything else happens. Building on top of them would leave any sinking, cracking or drainage faults underneath the new work, so the patio is laid on a newly dug, compacted base instead.

Does a New Patio Need Sealing?

No sealing is needed on porcelain, which is non-porous. Granite also asks very little of you beyond sweeping and a wash now and then. Limestone can be sealed so marks wipe off more easily, but that is optional, and you are talked through it when you choose the stone.

Is There a Warranty on a New Patio?

Yes. New patio installations are covered by a 5-year warranty, and the slabs come with the manufacturer's warranty too. That cover sits alongside a no-deposit approach: you settle up when the work is finished, with stage payments only on larger jobs.

How Can I Tell a Patio Has Been Laid Well?

Step on each part of it: nothing should move or rock, and no water should be left standing after rain. Slab edges should meet closely in level (about 2mm is the usual allowance), joints should be fully and evenly filled, and paving should finish 150mm or more below the DPC, except at doorways, with air bricks kept clear.
