Resin Bound Driveways

A resin bound driveway is natural stone coated in a clear resin, mixed on site and trowelled by hand into one smooth, even surface. It is resin bound rather than resin bonded, so every stone is coated and the finish is firm underfoot, not loose.

Because the surface is porous, rainwater drains through it instead of pooling. The resin is UV stable, so the stone holds its colour, and the texture gives good grip in the wet.

Resin works for driveways, paths and patios. Looking after it is simple: a sweep, and a power-wash a couple of times a year.

How It Works

How a Resin Driveway Is Laid

  1. Visit & Samples

We check the existing surface and bring stone colour samples to compare.

  2. Prepare the Base

The base is made sound and level, as resin needs a firm surface to sit on.

  3. Set the Edges

Edging is fixed around the area to hold the resin and give clean lines.

  4. Mix & Trowel

Resin and stone are mixed on site in batches and trowelled smooth by hand.

  5. Final Check Together

We review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Resin Driveway Questions

What Is the Difference Between Resin Bound & Resin Bonded?

Resin bound mixes the stone and resin together before it is laid, so every stone is coated and the surface is smooth and porous. Resin bonded scatters loose stone onto a layer of resin, which leaves a rougher, non-porous finish. We lay resin bound.

Is a Resin Driveway Permeable?

Yes. Resin bound stone has small gaps between the coated stones, so rainwater drains through the surface rather than running off it.

Will a Resin Driveway Fade?

The resin used is UV stable, so the surface keeps its colour rather than yellowing in the sun.

How Do I Look After a Resin Driveway?

Sweep it to keep leaves and grit off, and power-wash it about twice a year. That is usually all it needs.

Can Resin Go Over My Existing Driveway?

Sometimes. Resin needs a sound, stable base, so a solid existing tarmac or concrete drive may be suitable while a cracked or sunken one is not. We check this at the site visit.
