New Patios in Greystones

Every Greystones patio is planned from how you use your garden. Before a slab is chosen, the layout is worked out with you: the right spot for the table, the corner that keeps the evening sun and an easy route out from the back door. The size, shape and levels are fixed before the ground is broken.

The FREE design visit brings porcelain, granite and limestone samples to your home in Greystones. Laying them on the ground in your own light shows you what each really looks like: porcelain smooth in tone and easy to wipe clean, granite hard-wearing with a fine speckle, limestone a soft blue-grey.

Where the house sits higher than the garden, steps and edge pieces in the same stone give the patio a finished look from the threshold down.

Each slab is set on a full bed over a dug-out, compacted base, so no hollow spots are left, and the patio is laid to a gentle fall so rain flows away from your walls. The installation is protected by a 5-year warranty.

How It Works

How a New Patio Is Built

  1. Plan the Layout

We measure the space and agree the size, shape and levels with you, looking at stone samples on site.

  2. Dig Out

The current lawn or paving is cleared and the ground dug out for a solid base.

  3. Base & Falls

We compact the base and set it to fall gently away from the house.

  4. Lay & Point

Slabs are laid and cut to the layout, and the joints are then pointed.

  5. Final Check Together

Together we review the finished patio and confirm that everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Patios FAQs for Greystones

Do You Lay Patios in Greystones?

Yes. Greystones in Co. Wicklow is about 35 km from our Swords base, and we lay patios there and in Delgany, Kilcoole and Newcastle. Phone 1800 938 832 with your Eircode and we'll book a FREE site visit.

How Do I Get a Price for Patios in Greystones?

Phone 1800 938 832 or send the form with your Eircode. A FREE site visit is booked at your Greystones home, the job is looked at in detail and you get a clear price with no small print. You pay nothing up front, since no deposit is taken.

Which Patio Stone Is Best for an Irish Garden?

Properly bedded on a good base, all three handle Irish weather. Porcelain is the easiest to keep looking clean, granite is the hardest-wearing and limestone gives the classic blue-grey finish. The samples come out to your garden, so you can see each one in your own light before deciding.

Will a Porcelain Patio Be Slippery in the Rain?

Outdoor porcelain is made with a textured finish so it keeps its grip in wet weather. Slip resistance is graded on an R scale, and R11 is widely treated as the minimum for gardens; external slabs are generally 20mm thick. At the visit you can feel the surface of every sample before you choose.

How Big Should My Patio Be?

Allow space for the furniture you'll be using, plus room to walk around it and pull chairs out without a squeeze. At the visit we mark out the area on the ground with you, so you can see how big it will be before anything is dug.

What Affects the Cost of a New Patio?

Size has the biggest effect, followed by the stone, the excavation and base work your garden needs, and extras like steps and edge pieces. Porcelain takes longer to cut, which adds labour. After the FREE site visit you get a clear price, with no deposit and payment on completion.

Can the Patio Be Level With My Back Door?

The patio is set just under the back door threshold and falls gently away from the house, so it is not perfectly level. That way rain runs off into the garden instead of towards the door. We agree the levels with you at the visit before work starts.

How Much Fall Should a Patio Have?

Laying guides usually suggest a ratio of 1 in 60, roughly 17mm per metre, falling away from the house. Some porcelain suppliers advise 1:80 for very even slabs. We agree the fall for your patio at the visit, along with where the water will drain to.

Can You Lay a Patio Over My Old Slabs?

No. We lift the old slabs and their bed first, rather than laying over them. That way the new patio sits on a freshly dug and properly compacted base, not on top of whatever problems the old paving had. It is the surest way to give the new stone a sound footing.

Does a New Patio Need Sealing?

Sealing isn't needed on porcelain, as nothing soaks into its non-porous surface. Granite is very low-maintenance, needing only a sweep and an occasional wash. Limestone can be sealed to make stains easier to remove, but it isn't essential, and we explain the options when you choose your stone.

Is There a Warranty on a New Patio?

Yes. New patio installations come with a 5-year warranty, and the slabs are also covered by a warranty from their manufacturer. You won't be asked for a deposit, either; payment is due when the patio is finished, with stage payments only on larger projects.

How Can I Tell a Patio Has Been Laid Well?

A sound patio feels solid underfoot with no rocking slabs, and rain drains off without leaving puddles. Neighbouring slabs should be within about 2mm of level, joints should be even and full, and the paved surface should stay at least 150mm beneath the DPC except at doorways, with air bricks left uncovered.
